I have just decided to start writing on a passion of mine, and that is leadership. Lately I have noticed that the world is lacking leaders, no that is not correct. What I have noticed is the world is lacking good leaders. There is an abudance of leaders out there, just not so many good ones.
Hopefully this blog spot will allow me to express some opinions on leadership and to create some dialog on the topic to encourage those leaders out there to not be satisfied with just being the leader, but in being a great leader.
Abraham Lincoln once said, "the enemy of great is not bad, it is good". We settle many times for good enough and stop chasing after greatness.
What makes the difference between a good leader and a great leader you might ask? Is is success, riches, rewards, recognitions? Sometimes even bad leaders will find success, riches, receive rewards and recognition in spite of their bad leadership. I have seen it happen myself when someone who is not deserving of those accolades gets lucky and make something happen. Many times those leaders have a hard time duplicating past successes because they never really earned those successes in the first place. It is only later that their bad leadership skills are revealed, usually in a failed enterprise.
So what makes a great leader? The people who follow him or her.
People will not follow a bad leader, it goes against their nature. A self centered, egotistical leader will drive people away instead of having them fall into step to build something great. A leader lacking in character will only attract others who share the same moral failings as the leader.
Great leaders share a number of common denominators and we shall sample some of them and get to the roots of what makes a great leader.
So join me as we explore the possibilites and the pratfalls of leadership together.
